Part 1:
Reflect on a time (personal, educational, professional) when you felt you did not belong or possibly were discriminated against. If you have never experienced this, interview someone (friend, family, colleague, neighbor, etc.) who has had this type of experience, or discuss a similar occurrence you observed happening to someone else.
Include the following areas in your reflection:
- What was the situation?
- What do you believe were the contributing factors?
- How did it make you feel?
- What did you do in this situation?
- How did the situation resolve?
Part 2:
Summarize the ways diversity, inclusion, and equity (DEI) apply to the health care industry and affect key stakeholders differently (i.e., patients, workers, leaders, physicians, etc.). Within your summary, include the U.S. health care industry’s DEI efforts and best practices. Which best practices do you believe are effective, and what areas, if any, do you believe still require additional improvements or new initiatives?
