Instructions:
You will be graded on your performance on one (1) essay and two (2) short-answer questions.
Your answers should be typed, double-spaced, times new roman, 12-font, and standard margins. Please use MS Word and include all your answers on one document. You should upload your answers through Dropbox no later than 11:59PM, April 30, 2024. Please put your name on your exam. You will not be docked points for a few typos, grammatical errors, etc., but if the structure of your answer is poor, or your answer is full of typos and errors (to a point that it takes away from its substance), then you will lose points.
Please organize your essay with an introduction, body, and conclusion. You MUST use the APA Format, CORRECTLY. There are many examples of proper use of APA on eLearn course page, the TSU Library web page and particularly on Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab (OWL)
https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/ind ex.html
Make sure that you address ALL components of the essay. Your responses, particularly in the essay, must be well thought-out and critical/analytical. Phrases such as, “for example,” “specifically,” “in other words,” “furthermore” are promising—they indicate that you are being clear, specific, explaining yourself, etc. You are expected to draw on at least some material from outside the course material and you must cite the material and provide a reference page. If you refer to your course text or an essay or something from class, you do not have to formally cite it. You should assume an audience that knows nothing about the Criminal Justice System and the topics you are discussing will be reading your response.
You should e-mail me with any questions you have. This exam is supposed to reflect your own personal journey, so please do not discuss the exam with anyone. No late exams will be accepted. No excuses will be accepted. Period! If you are worried about having internet issues or your computer crashing, use a lab on campus or start and complete well ahead of the deadline.
Good luck!

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING ESSAY:
Essay Discuss the history of the juvenile justice system from ancient times through our current system. What philosophies were prevalent throughout the stages of its development? (In addressing this question, you should note the shift in public opinion over the course of time that resulted in changes in the juvenile justice system. Also, you should note the differences in the juvenile justice system and the (adult) criminal justice system.) What does the establishment of a juvenile justice system imply about the causes of juvenile crime and how they may differ from the causes of crimes committed by adults? What do you believe are the causes of juvenile crime, and how do you believe the juvenile justice system can best deal with juvenile offenders, considering what you believe the causes of juvenile offending are? The essay should be at least 700-1000 words long. (State the Word count). 60 points.
Please answer BOTH questions.
