2000 words (10% over/under word limit applies) excluding bibliography

I need you to find a topic of your choice most fitting would be a disaster or something that happened in the world that has had research done on the thing that fits the criteria.

Introduction

Give the reader an overall introduction of the topic that you are looking at, the key issues and findings, and your key argument.

Background of the issue

Brief explainer of the issue

You may not need to answer all these questions, but it helps to consider the 5 Ws in journalism practice:

  • whats the issue;
  • where did it happen;
  • who are involved/the stakeholders;
  • when did it happen;
  • why did it happen this one could have conflicting explanations; and
  • how did it happen).*

*Not necessarily in this order.

Method:

What materials did you use (e.g. content analysis of a policy report? Literature review of academic journals? Review of aid projects documents? Or a combination of bits and pieces?). Keep this section brief.

Analysis of key findings and analyses

  • Findings 1
  • Findings 2
  • Findings 3 (if word length permits)

Note: this is the most substantive (key fillings!) of your multi-layered sandwich.

IMPORTANT: Analyses should relate to key concepts and theories addressed in this course (e.g. empowerment, participation, intersectionality).

Recommendations

Your suggestions of actions that should be taken, whether it is by governments (local and/or international), policy makers, non-government organisations, private sector, communities, and so on.

Note: This is the second most substantive layer of your essay sandwich!

Implications of Business as Usual

This is more of a speculation, but if your recommendations are not acted upon in a timely and meaningful way, what are the risks and complications that can arise?

If you used AI, you need to declare how you have used it. If you did not, you still need to declare it. Just say that at the end of the essay. This is compulsory.

I want you to basically connect the dots explain the tragedy then tie it into these things

Intersectionality: Who is excluded? Who is harmed? Who benefits?

  • Participation: Were communities involved in decision-making?
  • Empowerment: Who gained/loses power from this intervention?
  • Mutual aid: How communities support each other beyond institutions
  • Inclusive development: Whose voices, needs, or knowledge are missing?
  • make sure everything makes sense
