PRESCRIPTOR
An exploration of the complex relationships between science, scientists, and society, and how these relationships shape research and practice. Includes critical evaluation of the history and philosophy of science, the role of science in contemporary society, and how science communication influences decision-making and public support of science. Students will learn to become more relevant and reflexive scientists in an ever-changing world, while gaining the skills and knowledge required to effectively communicate complex scientific ideas in clear and creative ways.

This course will be offered as a combination of lectures, tutorials, class discussions, interactive activities, and independent study. The course will be supported by the most recent articles and popular media (e.g., news articles, podcasts, blogs, and visual media) each time it runs to ensure relevancy to topical and emerging issues.
